Snowball fight with Grandpa using Grandma's cool new snowball maker!
Ever since Uncle Blake's birthday earlier in January, the kids have been counting down the days until Aunt Sarah and him came to visit so that they could make him a special birthday cake! They made a good one too, chocolate chip zucchini cake!
Carson made his own derby car at the workshop with the boy scouts. Patrick and Carson had to come up with a design for how the car would look before starting and with a little help (or maybe a lot) of help from Uncle Blake, they were able to go to the meeting prepared and ready to make a car! Derby cars are surprisingly complicated! Do we add weights to the back? What front end shape will make the car go the fastest? Too much! Patrick and I were dying laughing one night because the tools that Uncle Blake was telling us that Carson would have to use were tools we had never heard of in our life!

Since Uncle Blake was coming to visit anyways, Carson waited to get some help with the wheels from him. He wanted to make sure they were on good and straight because this kid really wants to win the race.
Laney loves her some Aunt Sarah time! She put about 23 barrettes in her hair, all on her own, just for Aunt Sarah's arrival!
Family nature walk! It was a memorable one :-) One kid was in a great mood....the other, not so much.

Saloon time! This girl won't let me touch her hair without screaming but Aunt Sarah was allowed to put in pig tails!
Stylin :-) Laney has been picking out her outfits, getting dressed, using the bathroom, and brushing her teeth and hair all on her own in the mornings. I'm not even allowed to go upstairs with her. It's pretty awesome to say the least. She comes up with some good outfits.
We had a skate night with our church youth group and this time Daddy had to lace up because there is no way I could get out on that floor with this baby in my belly! It was Laney's first time skating and no surprise, she was awesome at it. I'm not sure who is holding up who in this photo. Laney was pretty good on her own. Of course she's hard on herself and keeps talking about how she wants to get faster like the bigger kids were.
Carson has been rollerskating several times so this time he brought his rollerblades to try out and wow did he just take off! He struggled in our driveway at the end of the summer but he was flying around the rink this time! He was so proud of himself because he said he was passing some older kids. When did our kids get so competitive?! At one point Laney had fallen and just sat there in the middle of the floor, frustrated, and Carson skated out on his own and helped her up...without us asking. A rare moment that I want to remember! He even held her hand for a while once she got up...oh my heart! Whenever Laney would fall down she would say, "These are some wild skates!".
Watching Patrick roller skate for the first time since grade school was possibly the most entertaining part of the night. He did good...just couldn't quite remember how to slow down or stop :-)
"Wait up, Carson!" Laney wanted to keep up so badly.
A little dancing on the floor too! Even with roller skates on Laney can't help but bust a move.
